      JUNE MEETING

      PLANT TOUR-NASTECH


      Hello, Chapter 20 SME members. The Executive committee extends an invitation to you to attend our last regular SME meeting for this season. On June 18th, the third Tuesday in June, we will be meeting at the Nastech steering column factory in Bennington, Vt., for a plant tour. Please arrive slightly early for the 7:00 PM start of the tour. Due to the distance some of us may need to travel we are starting later than usual and not serving dinner, also no charge for this meeting. DIRECTIONS: From RTE 67:Take RTE 67 to North Bennington, at the intersection in North Bennington(Gas Station on right)Turn right onto RTE 67A ,after this make no more turns until passing a Burger King on right and a Chevy Dealer on left, then take a left onto East Road at the next intersection. Shields Drive and Nastech will be on the right going up the hill. DIRECTIONS: From RTE 7: Take RTE 7 North out of Troy this changes to VT RTE 9 at the VT/NY border. Follow this to Old Bennington bearing left and then right down the hill into Bennington. At the second light turn left onto Depot St. and follow this to a “T” ,turn left here onto RTE 7. At the next intersection turn right onto Kocher Drive,Burger King will be on the right and a Chevy Dealer on the left, at the next intersection turn left onto East Road. Shields Drive and Nastech will be on the Right going up the hill. Enjoy the scenery on the drive. For those taking RTE 67 you will be passing the site of the Battle of Bennington in Walloomsack NY. For those taking RTE 7 you will be passing the site of the Tavern in Old Bennington where the Patriots became fortified for the battle. Hope to see you there.

      The College Poster contest sponsored by Allendale Machinery Haas and Chapter 20 was held Wednesday, April 24th in the Multidisciplinary Design Laboratory located on the third floor of the Jonsson Engineering Center at RPI.

      The High School "Exploring Manufacturing" poster contest was held May 15th at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute sponsored by Capital District Chapter 20 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in cooperation with Haas Automation. The contest was a great success due to the support of Haas Automation.

      Kevin Mumm of Lansingburg High School - Quest Star III, New Visions Program presents his findings relative to the application of nanotechnology in the production of carbon nanotubes for computer applications.

      Dave Sharpe of Haas Automation presents the $500 1st place award to Alyssa Pasquale of Averill Park High School - Quest Star III, New Visions Program.

      $500 1st place award went to Alyssa Pasquale of Alyssa Pasquale of Averill Park High School, Averill Park N.Y. - Quest Star III, New Visions Program for her poster and presentation in the area of the automation of sorting in a manufacturing environment.

      $250 2nd place went to Kevin Mumm of Lansingburg High School, Lansingburg N.Y. - Quest Star III, New Visions Program for his poster and presentation in the area of the application of nanotechnology in the production of carbon nanotubes for computer applications.
