SME, AME and Shingo Prize combined efforts a few years ago to produce the first nationally recognized lean certification consisting of three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level provides an industry-recognized lean credential that documents your knowledge and skill. Candidates must complete the requirements of each level before progressing to the next. Bronze level certification requires passing an exam and documenting your lean experience through the portfolio process. Not a traditional lean training seminar, this two-day review program (May 8 & 9, 2008) is a focused study session that prepares you to take the bronze level certification exam. Study materials for the course consist of the body of knowledge listed at :

These materials must be purchased prior to attending the course. Attendees should read the materials prior to the course and bring them for use in the course and the open book exam.
The exam (optional) will be given on the morning of May 10. Registrations and payments for the Review Course and Certification Exam must be made separately. See instructions in the program details section below.Our facilitator will be Tom McBride, President of Partners for Creative Solutions, Inc. Tom has over 30 years of engineering and manufacturing experience and is Lean Bronze Certified (SME/AME/Shingo), a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and a Registered Professional Engineer.
He has presented courses and workshops sponsored by SME, Northeast Quality Council of ASQ, Central Massachusetts Employers’ Association, the Purchasing Managers’ Association of Boston, and Quinsigamond Community College. Tom holds a BSME from the University of Missouri-Rolla & an MBA from the University of Akron (Ohio).

May 8 and 9 (Thursday & Friday) – Lean Bronze Certification Review Course – 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
Location: Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, Massachusetts.
The course will be held at WPI’s Higgins House, located on John Wing Road (off Salisbury Street).
Cost: $445 per person (review course only; see below for additional cost of exam). Please make checks payable to SME Chapter 25. Location: Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, Massachusetts.
The exam will be held in Washburn Labs, Room 229.
