Abstract

You already have a good knowledge of the process side of Lean and Six Sigma. The Human Side is a bit more difficult to capture and is multi-facetted.

You want to get your ‘lean’ message across. You want to be heard and understood. And in turn, you want hear and consider what others have to say. You believe in the importance of the “Human Side of Lean’ to successful implementations of Lean, which achieve durable results and ongoing improvements. You know that for your teams to work more effectively, it is crucial to tap into all of the members’ talents. You realize that communication, cooperation and mutual acceptance are necessary to reach your goals (and your company’s goals) on time and on budget.

You are familiar with projects that are running late and over budget, blamed on (poor) management and confused communication. Even the best intentions are sometimes producing disastrous results. Small misunderstandings seem to escalate and then need disproportionate attention and efforts to fix.

Could you use additional tools and concepts to communicate more effectively? Preferably approaches that value life experience and build on existing technical competence?

Until recently, learning about human communication has often been piece-meal and time consuming. Often it has left people confused, left to experiment alone through trial and error. But there is a better way. We can get you moving a giant step forward with an overview of multiple perspectives, combined with real examples, ‘Improv’ exercises and more, in just one evening. You will learn and will have fun at the same time.

  • Improve communication and mutual understanding
  • Increase the likelihood of sustainable improvements when implementing ‘lean’
  • Boost performance of work groups and project teams

This is a unique opportunity to learn about practical tools and concepts that will strengthen your communication skills, which are a fundamental part of the Human Side of Lean.

Here are 5 benefits that you will get by attending:

  1. Increased workplace communication, the basis for trust and cooperation.
  2. Learn how to communicate with diverse members of project and work teams.
  3. Sharpened communications and soft-skills.
  4. Opportunity to practice your communication skills in a ‘safe’workshop setting.
  5. New insights you can use immediately at work, and in your personal life.

About the SME-26 Special Interest Group
“STG: The Human Side of Lean”

This SME-26 initiative to set up specific STG’s offers additional value for our members by providing special platforms that allow for intensive and active information exchange. STG’s can be initiated and organized by SME members who want to highlight and learn more about individual topics of general interest. The idea is to have monthly meeting in the GTA with member presentations, plant tours, guest speakers and discussions corresponding to the theme of the particular STG.

The first “STG: The Human Side of Lean” was launched February 20, 2006 with the CFN Precision plant tour, a leadingLean Six Sigma manufacturing company.

Lean and Six Sigma are the most widely accepted and successful business process improvement strategies in the world. The Toyota Production System TPS is based on these methods in combination with a unique and extremely well defined People Engagement philosophy, dating back to the origin of TPS in the 1940th. In North America less than 5% of companies achieve sustainable results and they increasingly realize that the secret lies in the necessity of actively addressing the “Human Side of the Lean Implementation”.

Please go the SME-26 Website or click here to find out about upcoming events.
