"You don't need to be an Expert in Lean to attend this training, nor do you have to take the exam.
Your interest in Lean is enough!" |

SME Lean Certification is the internationally recognized
certification process developed by SME (Society of Manufacturing
Engineers) and AME (Association for Manufacturing Excellence)
along with the Shingo Prize committee. Members of our chapter
SME-26 have been trained and authorized to provide review courses
and administer the required SME Certification exam.
Earning the Lean Bronze Certification demonstrates your solid
understanding of basic lean principles and tools, and your ability in
tactical implementation that drives improvement and shows
measurable results. The certification program has three (3) levels:
Bronze, Silver and Gold and each level documents your knowledge
and skill. All certification candidates must complete the Bronze-level
requirements before progressing to the next level.
This level is for Lean practitioners with tactical Lean experience. You
are deploying and applying lean principles, concepts and methods
locally, within a work cell, work group, value stream etc. and will find
practical support with SME-26. In addition, you are expected of being
able to teach the basic tools of Lean. |

The examination is the beginning phase in the certification process.
Exam content is linked to a specific body of knowledge. Candidates
pursuing Lean Bronze Certification are expected to successfully pass
the approximately 150-question, 3-hour examination before moving
to the portfolio phase. |

Lean certification candidates continually exercise their Lean
knowledge by participating in activities in which they apply Lean
principles and tools. At the Bronze level, practitioners begin to
demonstrate their experience through the development of their Lean
portfolio. In the portfolio, using the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle,
candidates provide summary documentation of the Lean events,
projects and activities they completed, along with supporting
evidence of results.
The portfolio review entails practitioners evaluating other
practitioners. This important phase highlights the peer-to-peer
development inherent in the program. |
