GENERAL: The 1999 operating year will provide many challenges for the Executive Committee. The committee will start off the year missing one officer, chairman-elect and at least two critical chair positions, membership and certification chairman. The Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer (also the Chapter Historian and Constitution & By-Laws Chairman), Bulletin Editor (also the 1998 Chairman), Program Chairman, and Web Master, will comprise the Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee and General Membership meeting formats and dates will continue as in 1998. The Executive Committee meeting will be held on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding the month of July and December. There will not be an executive committee meeting held during the month of July or December. The General Membership meeting will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month, excluding July, August, and December. There will not be a General Membership meeting held during July or August. The December meeting will be held on the second week of the month.

CHAPTER FOCUS: The Executive Committee will continue to provide monthly programs to Chapter 051 members and guests. Programs will include technical presentations and/or plant tours varying in subject to encourage members to attend. The committee will continue to research and implement techniques to increase meeting attendance.

The search for qualified members for officer or chair positions will continue. Candidates for office should be willing to commit to moving through the various offices.

Chapter 051 will maintain or develop relationships with various student chapters. Maintain an association with Student Chapter S255 at the Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater and Student Chapter S305 at the University of North Texas. The Executive Committee will establish contact with Student Chapter S240 at the Texas Tech University in Lubbock and pursue the formation of student chapters at Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas at Arlington. Chapter 051 members will oversee financial requirements, mentor the student executive committees, and provide guidance for regional and national activities.

CHAPTER PURPOSE: Chapter 051 will serve its members and the North/West Texas manufacturing community through the advancement of professionalism, knowledge, and learning.

The Executive Committee will continue to follow and update the Chapter 051 Strategic plan that was established in 1997. Seven chapter goals are as follows:

1. will be recognized as the source of learning and knowledge for the North/West Texas manufacturing community.
2. will be the resource for manufacturing information employing electronic media.
3. will be acknowledged by its members and the North/West Texas manufacturing community as a respected manufacturing engineering association driven by customer satisfaction.
4. will be viewed as a credible source of manufacturing information for those involved in the formation of public policy regarding science, technology, and engineering related to manufacturing.
5. will cultivate and advance manufacturing education in North/West Texas schools.
6. will continue to be financially secure and stable.
7. will promote interaction with other local engineering societies.

SUMMARY: The executive committee must maintain the chapter’s focus on the membership. We should find ways to both include members in our chapter’s activities and recognize our members accomplishments.

SME Chapter 051

Responsibilities: As the chief administrative officer of the chapter, the chair will preside over all official chapter functions according to the Constitution and Bylaws, and Chapter Procedures. Additionally the chair will ensure that required reports are submitted and job functions executed according to SME governance document(s).

Procedures: Anticipated Chair expense activities:

Accountability: The Chair is an elected officer being accountable to the Chapter 051 general membership, the Chapter 051 Executive Committee, the Region 011 Executive Committee, and the SME International officers.

Funding: The 1999 budget for the Chair is $1,000.00

Responsibilities: The Chair-elect will preside at meetings in the absence of the Chair and carry out the responsibilities until the Chair returns. The Chair-elect will be responsible for the activities of the Membership Recruitment/Retention, Nomination, and Strategic Planning committees.

Procedures: Anticipated Chair-Elect expense activities:

Accountability: The Chair-Elect is an elected officer being accountable to Chapter 051 general membership, the Chapter Chair, and the Chapter 051 Executive Committee.

Funding: The 1999 budget for the Chair-elect is $1,000.00

Responsibilities: he treasurer is the administrator of chapter financial requirements and advisor to the chapter executive committee. The treasurer will receive, hold, safeguard, and disburse chapter funds; and submit financial reports to the executive committee and SME International Headquarters according to the SME governance documents.

Procedures: Anticipated Treasurer expense activities:

Accountability: The Treasurer is an elected officer being accountable to Chapter 051 general membership, the Chapter Chair, and the Chapter 051 Executive Committee.

Funding: The 1999 budget for the Treasurer is $30.00
