Welcome to the homepage of the Atlanta Chapter (Chapter 61) of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), where manufacturing comes together in North Georgia! Our Chapter 61 team strives to maintain an active schedule of exciting plant tours along with interesting and informative technical presentations and activities, in order to promote an increased awareness of manufacturing engineering in our community. At the same time, we aim to create an environment for local manufacturing professionals to get together and have some fun, chat with each other about leading trends and technologies that impact their daily jobs, and develop friends and contacts that will last them throughout their careers and lifetimes. With direct operations in 30 countries worldwide, Nordson Corporation is the world's leading manufacturer of systems that apply adhesives, sealants and coatings during manufacturing operations. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, December 2, 2008 for a tour of the Nordson facilities in Norcross. For more information and to register for the meeting, go to EVENTS. December, 18 2008 – Toys for Tots This is the ninth anniversary of SME Atlanta’s support of the Toys for Tots program organized by the U.S. Marines. Come join us for a great time while we all blitz-assemble bicycles so the Marines and other volunteers can make children’s dreams come true during this holiday season. We typically build about 100 bicycles and tricycles and tell a few yarns along the way! The Marines Toys for Tots program has a long history hailing back to beginnings in 1947. In recent years, approximately 150 local Marines and Reserves that do the work for Toys for Tots in Atlanta. They typically give about 900,000 toys to 450,000 children locally. All toys are donated primarily at toy drives or from companies and individual SMEers are known to care, so please mark your calendar for December 18^th at 5:30pm to make this important contribution of your time. This year, the Toys for Tots warehouse is located at 1280 Field Parkway NW, Marietta, Ga 30066. More details will be posted about this event soon. Please add it to your schedule in the mean time!
