Purpose
 
   The purpose of the toothpick bridge project was to create bridges using weight distribution techniques that would hold (for an E) 50 pounds. The guidelines for the project included a weight limit of 121 grams, a height limit of 18 inches, a length limit of 25 1/2 inches, and a width limit of 7 inches. The span of the bridge was to be at least 16 5/8 inches and the weight was to be applied to the top of the bridge by an 8x8 inch plate.
 
   Only toothpicks and glue are allowed in the construction of the toothpick bridges.
