John Byron – Chairman

John is currently a Sr. Facility Engineer for H. B. Fuller in Tucker, GA.  He has over fifteen years of manufacturing experience across a wide array of industries - paper, flexible packaging, plastics, and polyurethanes - creating lean manufacturing environments and driving variation out of manufacturing processes.  Originally from Connecticut, John is a graduate of UCONN in Electrical Engineering.

Ken Barra – Chair-Elect

Ken Barra currently works as a Medical Design Engineer for Spinal Devices, a small manufacturing company in Marietta.  Spinal Devices manufactures implants and surgical tools for orthopedic and neurosurgeons in spinal reconstructive surgery. Ken has been a member of SME for 4 years and has previously served as Student Chapter Chairman at Southern Polytechnic State University.  He is an SME Certified Manufacturing Technologist.

Dan Kochan – Secretary / Treasurer

Dan is currently a Manufacturing Engineer for Seasons 4, Inc., a commercial HVAC equipment manufacturer located in Douglasville, GA.  His previous 18 years of experience as an Aviation Maintenance Technician have given him the necessary insights for quality control and Lean implementation.  He has a BSAST degree from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, NJ.

Danny Catchings - Membership Chair

Danny is the Lean/CI Manager at the Timken Dahlonega, Ga facility. Danny leads the plant's continuous improvement activities to include identifying opportunities, establishing objectives and facilitaing implementation of lean manufacturing concepts. Danny has also held positions of Lean Leader, Focus Factory Manager and Supervisor at other manufacturing companies. In Danny's spare time he spends it with his wife and two sons playing video games and watching movies. He holds a MBA from Southern Wesleyan University.

Dr Simin Nasseri– SPSU Faculty Advisor

Dr Nasseri was a Senior Research Associate (Senior Scientist)/ Lecturer at Sydney University, Australia, where she earned her doctorate in Mechanical Engineering.  She is currently teaching in the Mechanical Engineering Technology department at Southern Polytechnic State University.  Dr Nasseri has been the advisor to the student chapter of SME at SPSU since Fall of 2006.

Dr. Ron Bohlander – Membership Council

Ron is the Director of Commercial Product Realization for the Georgia Tech Research Institute.  In his off time he enjoys hiking and gardening with his wife.  He has been elected a Fellow of SME and of GTRI.  He also serves SME as a representative to its Member Council.  He holds a PhD in Physics from Imperial College, University of London.

John Morehouse – Webmaster

John is a Research Engineer and program coordinator for the Precision Machining Research Consortium in Georgia Tech’s Manufacturing Research Center.  Previously he worked in process optimization and cost reduction in the consumer electronics industry, including three years in a production facility in Humacao, Puerto Rico.  John has served the Atlanta Chapter as treasurer, chair elect, and most recently, a two year term as chairman.  He holds a BSME from Cornell University and a B.A. in Physics from Ithaca College.
