Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting

Technical Presentation:

The engineering and management team at ABB Robotics hosted the chapter at their facility in Auburn Hills.  Joe Campbell briefed us on the company’s robot strategy and product line.  Then, Matt VanGilder, Controls engineering Director and his team walked us through three demonstrations that showcased TrueView 3D vision guidance, Force Control based piston stuffing and the newest SafeMove technology for “fence free” man/machine interaction.

John Agapiou- Chair, Chengyin Yuan- Chair Elect, Stuart Selis-Secretary, Stacy Behrens –Membership Chair, Douglas Ruffley- Communications, John Dinovski- Certifications Coodinator, Viktor Astakhov-Awards Chair, Leandro Barajas, Robert Petrach, Alan Wolfe, Jason Viers, Matt VanGilder and Mike Majewski.

Chapter Business

 

John called the meeting to order at 8:00 after the presentation, tour and dinner. A certificate of appreciation was presented to Joe Campbell and Matt VanGilder. 

John reviewed minutes and asked for additions and corrections. There were no corrections. Stacy Behrens moved to accept, Doug Ruffley seconded, approved. 

Membership report was given by Stacy Behrens. Membership was at 355 as this morning although that number may be soft.  Only two student members are current.  Stacy volunteered to update the web site but should coordinate with Jack Wagner who is responsible and should also consult with Doug Ruffley who is Communications Chair.  Stacy mentioned the web site LinkedIn and suggested that the chapter start a group for networking.  Stacy will also be making calls and sending e-mails for people to re-join. 

Teasurer’s Report - Gary Shepperd left information for the treasurers report, balance was $5196.11 with some awards expenses (approximately $150) outstanding from the Installation and Awards dinner. Tonight’s dinner is due for an expense of $119.19 

Survey Monkey Report – John Dinovski reported that there have been 9 responses so far to the Survey Monkey that went out. 

Programs report –March tour/meeting is tentative at Single Source Technologies.  This still needs to be firmed up.

April technical meeting is tentatively scheduled to have Stacy Behrens present how to network.  May is still open and perhaps we will get suggestions from the results from Survey Monkey. 

Certification Report- John Dinovski reported that there have been several inquiries.  He is looking to propose a schedule to see if he can firm up the interest.  John also would like to work on presenting an award to Michigan Production Machine in appreciation for their support. 

Communications and Bulletin –Doug sent out the Survey Monkey.  We have 80% of our members e-mail addresses.  Doug will send out a survey reminder on February 23rd.  The target date for the March Bulletin is March 1st. 

Student Chapter Relations – No Report 

Old Business:  There was no old business 

New Business- Bob Petrach mentioned the SME Leadeship Training on October 9 and 10 in Dearborn at the Double Tree.  Friday evening will include a presentation and pizza dinner and on Saturday a complete program will be presented. 

If you have ideas for a tour or speakers, they will be entertained. 

John adjourned the meeting at 8:50.
