Society of Manufacturing Engineers

Chapter 69

Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting

March 16, 2007

Technical Presentation and Tour:

The presenter for the evening was Bill Carver and was held at Auburn Engineering. Bill gave a very informative presentation and tour of the facilities. I believe every one there learned a lot and had a good time. For those not there you also missed Jack Day and his barbershop Quartet. Awards chairman, Viktor Astakhov presented a certificate of appreciation from Chapter 69 to Bill.

Robert Petrach ran the meeting in Chairman John Dinovski’s absence at Auburn Engineering. There was not a quorum. The meeting began with introductions.

Meeting Attendees:

Alan Wolfe-Secretary, Viktor Astakhov-Awards Chair, Robert Petrach-Membership Chair, Leandro Barajas-Programs Chair, Paul Drallos-Bulletin Editor, Gary Shepperd, Diwarkar Nageh, Herb Dobbs and Jack Day.

Secretary's Report

February minutes were not approved since there was not a quorum.

Treasurer's Report

Jack Wagner was absent. No report.

Membership Committee:

Bob Petrach has been sending out “renewal reminders” and also welcome emails to the new members. Memberships to date 387 minus 42 that are expired so far this year bring the total membership down to 345 if none renew. The spring telethon may not be held at this time.

Programs Report:

Leandro Barajas informed us that the April speaker JD would have his presentation on manufacturing in China. Bob Petrach asked Leandro to get a bio together so we could advertise April’s meeting in hopes of a large turn out. Leandro also has someone lineup to talk about intelligent systems for manufacturing. Herb Dobbs may be able to do a presentation. Getting commitments a month or two in advance is becoming increasingly difficult.

Communications Report:

Doug Ruffley was absent. There is still trouble with the bulk email notification system.

Bob said he would talk to Doug about the problem.

Bulletin Report:

Paul Drallos asked for notification of the technical presentation and biography as soon as possible. Although he indicated that he could turn around the bulletin in a couple days if necessary. Paul talked of doing a bio on each member with their picture for the bulletin. Get your bio into Paul first in first out. Viktor took pictures of everyone at the meeting.

Certification Report:

Larie Smith was absent.  Gary Shepperd said that only two people took the test.

Old Business:

Gary Shepperd will handle the summer social, which will be the first or second week in July.

Bob explained the social to new members. Bring your old cars.

New Business:

None

Not a formal meeting so no formal adjournment. Dinner was held after the meeting.
