Chapter 69

Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting

September 13, 2006

 

 

 

 

Technical Presentation:

The presenter for the evening was Mr. Bill Gilmore. Bill is a retired EMC Engineer

EMC stands for Electromagnetic Compatibility.

He told us many war stores of life as an EMC Engineer.

The talk was a very informative presentation outlining the many problems that can arise. Awards chairman, Viktor Astakhov, was not there to present a certificate of appreciation from Chapter 69. Dinner and socializing followed the technical presentation.

 

Chairman, Gary Shepperd began the meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Chapter Business

Secretary's Report

A motion made by Ed Marcum and seconded by Bob Petrach accepted the May minutes presented by Alan Wolfe.

 

Treasurer's Report

Jack Wagner was absent Bob Petrach gave the report and noted that we received a check for $231 for a bulk mailing refund. A motion made by Scott Manning and seconded by Doug Ruffley accepted the Treasure report.

 

Membership Committee:

Cathy DeNardo was absent. No report was given.

 

Programs Report:

Scott Manning thanked Bill for the presentation. He stated that October’s meeting would be held at Museum Bronze. Museum Bronze a collection of more than 1000 hand-made working models that demonstrate both the precision building of machinery for mass production and historical impact of the Industrial Revolution. www.museum-bronze.com

Suresh Rama will give the November presentation on designing for 6 sigma.

 

Communications Report:

Doug Ruffley reported that the email database is complete and he sent out over 280 emails for a test. Doug also said he would be communicating more with other chapters. And reported that chapter 79 is having a Technical Presentation on “Beer making” at The Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti on September 21.

 

 

 

Certification Report:

Larie Smith reported the reviews are scheduled for November 11 and 18 from 9:00am to 5:00pm with the test on November 19 at 1:30pm.  Alan Wolfe noted that the bulletin had the wrong date for the review. Instructors/teachers will be needed for the reviews, anyone who feels able to handle any of the subjects please contact Larie Smith. Larry said he would check with Jamie about new slides. Doug Ruffley to get information from Larie to email for volunteers and people interested in taking the test.

 

Student Chapter Report(s):

Jennifer Warstler was absent.

Bob Petrach mentioned talking to Elaine that it is hard to get students involved in SME.

 

Bulletin Report:

Paul Drallos reported that he needs information from the board to put in the bulletin. The new format of the bulletin has a lot more space for information.

 

Old Business:

Our summer social was not held this year.

Edwin Marcum reported that Jack Day received the prestigious “SME International Award of Merit”.

 

Nominations Committee:

 

Bob Petrach gave the report and listed the nominees. He still is looking for a Chair Elect, Programs Chair and Membership Chair. Nominated are Chair- John Dinovski

Treasurer-Jack Wagner, Secretary-Alan Wolfe, Communications-Doug Ruffley, Certification-Larie Smith.

 

New Business:

Edwin Marcum is looking for recipients for two awards. “The life time achievement award” and “The outstanding student award” The deadline for submittal is October 1,2006.

Bob Petrach talked about ways to get chapter members to our meetings.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm by a motion from John Dinovski and seconded by Scott Manning.
