Opportunities

We currently have all of the below positions filled for 2008. But, we are looking for people to help out with various committee positions for 2008/2009. The following positions are open to members of SME Chapter 85. 1. Program Chairman: The chapter Program Chairman is responsible for planning, organizing and executing the chapter technical programs and tours for the year. This is an excellent position for a person who likes to contact people and plan exciting events. This position requires a significant amount of dedication and organization. The program chairman is responsible for planning the entire year's programs, contacting the speakers and companies to be toured in advance. The program chairman's job is essential to chapter success. Therefore, we are looking for a person with strong organization and project management skills.

2. Certification Chairman: The Certification Chairman is responsible for promoting the SME Certification program within the chapter. This person will be responsible for organizing review courses and providing opportunities for Senior and Student Chapter members to take SME Certification exams for the Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT), Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE), and Certified Enterprise Integrator (CEI). The Certification Chairman will also be responsible for tracking the status of certified chapter members.

3. Membership Chairman: The Membership Chairman is responsible for promoting and maintaining membership in SME. This person will actively seek out potential new members that may be attending chapter functions and utilize promotional materials available through SME Headquarters or other materials to advertise and promote SME membership. The Membership Chairman will also keep the Chapter Chairman and executive committee informed as to current chapter membership levels and trends based on information obtained from SME Headquarters membership department.

4. Student Chapter Liaison: The Student Chapter Liaison is responsible for maintaining and nurturing student chapter relations. This person will regularly visit the active student chapters in Utah. This person will pursue and promote the development of new student chapters in schools that have manufacturing curriculum. The Student Chapter Liaison will also seek to revive and assist student chapters that may be having difficulties. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in mentoring students and promoting senior chapter membership after graduation.

5. Communications Committee Chairman: The Communications Committee Chairman is responsible for the co-ordination, production, and transmittal of chapter communications to its members. These communications include the chapter website, meeting notices and flyers, special notices, and quarterly bulletins. This would be a challenging position for anyone with the talent and desire to participate in these activities. Minimum qualifications are the ability to work with the chapter officers and staff to obtain the necessary information for these communications, knowledge of website management and html language, access to a home computer and internet access.
