Long Island / New York City Chapter 88

Chapter Chair's Message

This is my “State of the Chapter” letter for 2002. Here is what I would like to see for this year is the following:

·    Continuation of 10 events a year – in our last Executive meeting we discussed going to a looser format. We decided against it at this time.

·    At least one event a year within the New York City area –there are many interesting business there. We do need some help finding them.

·    Increased advertising in the Bulletin – this would benefit the advertising company by providing an opportunity to bring in more business and our membership by providing you with local companies that are eager to serve you. Our plan is to create a list of companies and send them some free copies of our bulletin. I just found out how many companies there are out there and I am overwhelmed.

·    Get 60% of our membership on our email list – we have about 30-40% now. Email is the best way to provide you with meeting notices that aren’t delayed by our mailing process. Updates and change can be made within a day or so of the meeting and I can send you the agenda for the executive meetings as well. We don’t send you junk and we keep your address private by using blind cc’s (if there is a better method, please email me).

·    Get our web page up and running – we are almost there I created some basic pages that headquarters needs to review and turn on. We could still use someone that is good or willing to learn how to do this to shift some of the burden off of me.

·         Help get the student chapter at Farmingdale active again and include them in our Bulletin mailings

·    Create a list of company representatives – you can help us and other members by being a contact person for your company. This can help connect members with your company for sales, employment leads or sharing information.

The bottom line to all this is to provide more value you our member. By sharing information and networking we can all be better engineers and managers with only a little effort.
