Chapter 93

Scholarships


 

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, SME, is a national, non-profit organization consisting of manufacturing professionals.  Chapter 93 is the Albuquerque affiliate of SME.  Money raised by the Chapter is used to provide educational scholarships for students following a curriculum in engineering, manufacturing or a related technical field in the state of New Mexico and El Paso, TX

Any student planning to major in manufacturing, engineering, technology or a related technical area in the state of New Mexico and El Paso, TX may apply for a SME Chapter 93 Scholarship Foundation scholarship.  The attached application and requirements should be completed and returned no later than November 10, 2006 .

Scholarships will be one $1,000.00 per year for a four-year program and two $500.00 per year for two-year programs. Scholarship funds will be awarded directly to the recipient at the Chapter’s Annual Awards Dinner or mailed by January of next fiscal year if the recipient is unable to attend the Awards Dinner.

The Scholarship Review Committee will select an alternate should any of the original scholarship recipients become ineligible for any reason.

If no qualified applicants apply from a particular academic level during any given year, the Scholarship Review Committee will determine an alternate distribution procedure for that award.

Criteria:

 Society of Manufacturing Engineers Chapter 93 Scholarship Foundation supports one scholarship of $1,000 per year. Applicants must be an under-graduate or a graduate student, enrolled in a manufacturing, or closely related degree program at one of the four-year schools in New Mexico .

Chapter 93 Scholarship Foundation Award Fund will offer two annual scholarship awards of $500 to a two-year associate degree program.

  1. Scholarship Application Form - Complete the Scholarship Application Form and provide all student, academic, and summary information.

  2. Student Statement Letter - Prepare a maximum 300 word statement explaining:

    1. Applicant's career objectives in manufacturing, engineering, technology, or related field.

    2. How this scholarship would help the applicant attain the above objectives.

  3.   Student Resume - Indicate internships, work and/or co-op experience, academic courses and projects related to the applicant's intended area of study in college, and SME or other professional memberships.

  4. Transcript - Provide transcript.

  5.  Recommendation Letter - Request one faculty and / or current / former employers of the applicant to write a letter of recommendation for the scholarship on their behalf.  Recommendations may be given directly to the student to include in their packet.

  6. GPA - 2.75 or higher (no failing grades in any subject).

  7.  Completed - at least 20 credit hours towards degree.

  8.  SME Member - Applicant must be a student or professional member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, or include application for SME membership.
