The Purpose of SME

The purpose of SME as enumerated in our Constitution is the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of manufacturing. We are dedicated to providing the means and the methods of applying this knowledge in practice and in education. Among other things, we promote and engage actively in research, writing, publishing and dissemination of knowledge within this field.

Our working goals and priorities for action aimed at achieving our purpose are enumerate below:

Long Range Goals

Recognition of SME as the most significant international forum serving the manufacturing community.

Recognition by management and by academic institutions of manufacturing engineering as an established, vital discipline.

Consolidation of the strength of the emerging manufacturing engineering profession through the building of a stronger SME.

Broader coverage by SME of all significant areas of manufacturing engineering through embracing new technologies and bringing practitioners in these fields into SME membership.
