SME 150's website is based on distributed information. Along with goes
distributed help! By that we mean members can participate from any location
and at any time is obtaining information and by helping to maintain
and grow our site. No member can say that there is not enough time because
we have many opportunities that require a minimum of time. However,
we do recognize that other overpowering pressures do exist. You decide
which category fits.
The following list may not be complete but does list our most immediate
needs. Please read and let us know all those that you would be willing
to discuss in detail. By selecting more than one, we can put you in
the most critical area for the greatest improvement in SME 150 and our
site.
FAVORITE LINKS LOCATOR - No one needs to volunteer for this position.
EVERYONE is already an FLL. All of us have favorite links, right? All
we ask you to do is e-mail your favorite links with a brief comment
that would let other chapter members know what makes your links such
a favorite with you. This action by everyone is critical because the
richness and, therefore, the value of our website depends on a treasure
of valuable (helpful) links. You will be connected to the chapter e-mail
address when you click on the communication links disbursed throughout
our site. PLEASE NOTE: Being an FLL does not count as being an active
chapter supporter.
CHAPTER OFFICER - If you recall, one of the benefits of being a member
of SME 150 was learning management skills free of "career"
risk. Well, this category is what we had in mind. Being an Officer will
require monthly face-to-face meetings because this activity requires
a verbal dialogue to accomplish the business of your chapter. This requirement
will be reduced or eliminated when we get a verbal conferencing system
on our site. The normal routine in an ongoin chapter is for a member
to be elected to the Executive Committee as Secretary and then move
up to Treasurer, Chair-Elect and Chair. This may not be the case with
SME 150 because of our distributed activities but must be assumed until
an adequate procedure is developed.
WEBMASTER - This individual will have complete responsibility for our
website and would be a very critical person in the successful operation
of our chapter. This person must be able to program using DreamWeaver
and Fireworks software we have supporting our site and be willing to
teach this to Assistant Webmasters. Procedures must be developed and
implemented to assure the correct information is displayed; that all
functions, including links, are operational; that our site abides by
the requirements of SME Headquarters and good taste; and, that we have
a chapter password system in place to restrict certain information to
chapter members only.
ASSISTANT WEBMASTERS - These individuals will receive assignments from
the webmaster to perform specific duties to support our website. These
assignments will include, (1) verifying specific link functionalities,
(2) updating assigned areas of the site with new and revised information
provided via e-mail, for example, from SME Headquarters, the individual
Officers or Committee Chairs such as the Meeting Chair or the Membership
Chair. This is a very vital activity because nothing is more conducive
to failure than having a site that is outdated or is not expanding the
information available to members. This activity is truly the heart that
keeps the body of our chapter alive, well and growing.
DATABASE MANAGER - This individual (and assistants, if needed) will
be responsible for maintaining the chapter database in a current state.
Activities include; messages to our members to remind them to keep their
personal information current on the SME HQ database; downloading the
SME HQ database monthly or more often as requested by the Chapter Executive
Committee; transferring only that information needed by our chapter
to a workable size for our requirements; updating the very limited database
that would be available to our members on our website. This limited
database will be for the exclusive use of our members to contact each
other and will be password protected.
MEMBERSHIP CHAIR - This is another important position. We need a person
to monitor our membership count; encourage members to sign up friends;
and, utilize programs developed by SME HQ to get companies more supportive
of chapter participation.
CAREER MENTORING CHAIR - This person would promote the BEST program
ever developed to guide and train budding (and the not so budding) in
their career path from wherever they are to their ultimate goal. This
program alone is worth many times our membership dues and is free!!!
This position is a real natural for someone with a lot of "teacher"
inside and the desire to use it.
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES CHAIRS - This are the most exciting new activities
for our members. When you investigate SME's site you will find references
to programs to help our children and young adults. SME has teamed with
about ten other associations with a focus on one activity to enthuse,
nurture, excite, broaden, help our children and young adults. We critize
those teaching our children, but isn't it time we invest a little time
ourselves. Many have expressed the desire o do so but never have the
tools to work with. PLEASE, investigate this area. This is one of the
major steps SME has taken to enable us to get involved in the FUTURE
of America! We have no excuse now!!!!!!!
