2004 Chapter Chair Message
Paul Wing, Monticello Spring Corp.
Chapter Chair
Hello and welcome to Lafayette SME chapter 268. I would like to start by introducing myself to you. I have lived in the Lafayette area for about 19 years starting with my college time at Purdue University. I started working with Monticello Spring Corporation in January of 1989 working in our R & D department where we build and design our own test equipment and some production equipment. I became interested in joining SME about 4 years ago and found out about the Lafayette chapter, joined and have been a member for about 3 years. One of the reasons I joined SME was to get to know some of the people in the Lafayette area who had similar interests and problems in manufacturing.
I am fairly new to SME but have learned a lot in the last 2 years being a chapter officer. There are a number of things I think we need to do as a chapter and one of them is to get our members more involved. It is a difficult task but it is vital to the success of our chapter. If we don't have member involvement there is no way of knowing what the majority of our members want or expect out of SME. Right now we are running on the input of about 5 to 10 active persons out of the 73 or so members in our local chapter. I urge you to call me or send me an email about what interests you in manufacturing. What kind of technical presentations would you like to see? What companies would you like to tour? It us all up to you the members as to which direction we go. One or 2 suggestions could make a big difference.
I look forward to meeting more of our members and being able to put a face with the name on our roster. Come to your next meeting, you'll be glad you came.
Sincerely,
Paul Wing
