NEW - We are pleased to present a Luncheon Conference on Lean Manufacturing Initiatives

To enhance productivity and make their businesses more viable, many manufacturers are initiating Lean Manufacturing programs to streamline their enterprise. That said, knowledge of lean resources that are available to businesses can aid in the effective deployment of a Lean Manufacturing program.

Speakers from Alberta Finance & Enterprise and The Canadian Manufactures & Exporters will speak of programs and resources available to help make lean initiatives a success. Attendees will learn of government incentives for lean, the obstacles many companies face in implementing lean, and the best practices to overcome these obstacles and effectively implement a lean program. To better understand the aspects of best practices of lean, attendees are also invited to participate in a discussion forum towards the end of the presentation about their experiences of lean. The term “Lean Manufacturing” has been in use for nearly twenty years, and many organizations worldwide have been applying lean principles for much longer than that. However, despite the tremendous success many companies have seen, only a few firms in Western Canada have begun to explore what lean thinking can do.

When companies first start down the path toward lean production, one of the first tools to be used is 5S. This system helps organize and stabilize the production system, and gets the organization used to standards and improvement. A successful 5S program is the vital foundation upon which further lean improvements can be built.

This hands-on workshop will introduce the importance and benefits of the 5S system. Participants will learn first-hand how 5S works in production and office settings, and how to apply it to start their lean journey. The session will be led by Dave deJong, who has been involved in design, manufacturing, testing, and training for over twenty years. He is currently the Principal of Caprica Consulting Limited, helping several local manufacturing companies with mechanical engineering and lean manufacturing projects.
