Quality Steel is a steel foundry located in Nisku that specializes in low alloy steels used primarily by the mining industry. They have a brand new facility that was built in 2002 after their old location in Edmonton burned down (SME toured this facility in June 1999). Quality Steel now has 6 different induction melting furnaces with capacities ranging from 2500 lbs to 8000 lbs. Their in house heat treating facilities includes a water quench tank, metallurgical lab, and engineering support.

Up until recently, Quality Steel was a locally and privately owned foundry that had been in business for 50 years. Last spring, the Quality Steel foundries located both here in Nisku and in Saskatoon, as well as their “sister” company SRW located in Edmonton, were purchased by ESCO Corporation.

Quality Steel specializes in:

  • Custom designed and supported GET (Ground Engaging Tool) points, adaptors, and shrouding for different mining buckets (Dragline, Hydraulic Shovels, Cable Shovels) used in all forms of open pit mining (coal, oil sands, and various other ores).
  • Various wear products including Dualmet and our their own bimetallic wear plates. These products are typically used on various conveyors and other high wear applications.
  • Dozer blade packages.
  • Various OEM and DRP points, adaptors, shrouding, and structural casting for various mining applications

Note: If there is not enough interest in the afternoon tour time, the evening session will be scheduled instead.
