Chapter 400 Chairman
CNH, the number one manufacturer of agricultural tractors and combines in the world, was created in November 1999 when Case Corp. and New Holland merged. This Grand Island plant will have CNH Globule’s only North American combine plant.
The Grand Island plant, built in 1964 on the 137-acre site was opened in 1965 and is now being developed to produce Case IH and New Holland brand combines, corn and grain headers.
Production plans are to run both yellow New Holland and red Case IH combines down the same line.
The plant recently underwent a $13 million reorganization and retooling project including state-of-the-art manufacturing and finishing equipment, a powder-coat paint system, and computer controlled presses and advanced laser technology. These innovations are expected to help reduce inventory and keep production costs down.
One of New Holland's combine models, the CX, was featured in Business Week. This combine sells for approximately $200,000 and is 13 feet high, 30 feet long and weighs 34,600 pounds
The coming years look to be busy -- and promising – for the Grand Island CNH plant.
