SME CHAPTER 36 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
May 25, 2005
(April and May meeting)

Participants:
Steve Schmitt, chairman; John Golzy, chairman-elect; Dale Underwood,
treasurer; Bill Dyck, membership chairman
and programs; and Charles Butcher, past chair. The meeting was held at DeVry University
and was called to order at 7:00 PM
by the chair. John Golzy took the minutes of the meeting.
1. Secretary’s
Report: Steve Schmitt presented the March
23, 2005 executive committee meeting minutes. He noted that the committee met
via email in April 2005. Motion made by John Golzy to accept the minutes,
seconded by Charles Butcher, motion approved.
2. Treasurer’s
Report: Dale Underwood presented the
treasurer report. As of April 20, 2005
the balance on checking account was $2,669.37. As of May 6, 2005 the balance on
savings account was $2,698.84. Chapter net worth as of May 6, 2005 was
$5,368.21. Motion made by Charles
Butcher to accept the treasurer report subject to audit, seconded by Bill Dyck,
motion approved.
3. Chairman
Chatter: Steve Schmitt presented
Chairman Chatter and will post a copy on the SME Chapter 36 web site. He
thanked Hassan Sadaat for hosting April technical meeting at Jefferson
Industries Corp. He also emphasized networking among SME members in the coming
year.
4. Program
Report: With not much interest in
June tailgate picnic at the Clipper’s game, the event will not be held this
year. Bill Dyck is planning fall meetings
with possibly a meeting with OU students in October. The May technical meeting
and tour was held at Detroit Diesel near Zanesville.
Students from Zane
State attended the
meeting.

Chapter Reports: none
6. Old
Business:

Dale,
John, and Steve met at Fifth Third bank to add Dale to the Chapter 36 account signature
authority.
·
Student
chapter competition reviewed with Edye Buchanan. Steve Schmitt will plan in
June on a proposal to hold the competition in late spring 2006 which will be
open to Ohio
student chapters.
7. New
Business:
·
John
Golzy will attend SME annual meeting in Baltimore,
June 2-5.
·
SkillsOhio
competitions (formerly VICA) has completed. Motion made by Bill Dyck to give
prizes of $100, $75, and $50 to the winners of precision machining, seconded by
Dale Underwood, motion approved. Charles Butcher shall provide the names and
addresses of winners to Dale Underwood.
·
Dale Underwood shall extract SME chapter 36
membership list and distribute it to committee members. Those without an email address should be
contacted and asked to send their email address to John Golzy to be added to
the listserve.
·
Charles Butcher suggested soliciting sponsorship
from the local manufacturing companies to provide prizes for student chapter
competitions.
·
John Golzy will send another email to recruit a new
secretary.
·
Charles Butcher suggested providing free SME
membership for one year to speakers at technical meetings. Steve Schmitt will
find out if complimentary memberships are still available.
·
John Golzy will send an email to the list to
determine what technical activities the members are interested in.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM. Next meeting will be in August.

Participants:

and programs; and Jerry Brevick, Student Chapter Advisor at Ohio State. The meeting was held at Panera Bread in Westerville
and was called to order at 7:00 PM by
the Chairman. With resignation of the Secretary, Steve Schmitt took the minutes
of the meeting.
1. Secretary’s
Report: Steve Schmitt presented the February 23, 2005 executive committee
meeting minutes. Motion made by Dale Underwood
to accept the minutes, seconded by John Golzy,
motion approved.
2. Treasurer’s
Report: Dale
Underwood did not have a report prepared because the officers
have not been able to coordinate a meeting at a Fifth Third bank to add Dale as
an account signatory. Steve Schmitt will
help Dale prepare a combined February/March/April report.
3. Chairman
Chatter: Steve Schmitt presented Chairman
Chatter and will post a copy on the SME Chapter 36 web site.
4. Program
Report: Bill Dyck suggested a joint meeting with the Ohio
State Student Chapter in April with the topic being a new game that helps teach
lean manufacturing for job shop operators.
May is tentatively a joint meeting with the Zane State Student Chapter,
including a Penske plant tour.
5. Student
Chapter Reports: Jerry Brevick
attended and reported that Shahrukh Irani was interested in serving as the Ohio
State Student Chapter Advisor.
6. VICA
Competition Report: Volunteers are needed to serve as judges on the
afternoon of Friday, April 29, and Saturday morning, April 30, at the Ohio
Expo Center
in Columbus.
7. Old
Business:

Dale,
John, and Steve to coordinate a visit to a Fifth Third bank to add Dale to the
Chapter 36 account signature authority.
·
Steve
drafted a white paper for a student chapter competition with the emphasis on
raising awareness of Ohio manufacturing and manufacturing education.
·
Professional
Development Conferences – Annual Meeting is 6/1-5/05 in Baltimore – Chapter 36 tradition is to send the
Chairman Elect. John plans to attend.
8. New
Business:

Chapter Consultant, and Dean Brown, Zane State faculty and coordinator of the
Ohio VICA Precision Machining Competitionr. The meeting was held at DeVry
University and was called to order
at 7:00 PM by the chair. In the
absence of secretary Chris Vogelsang, Steve Schmitt took the minutes of the
meeting.

in Marysville is set up. Bill and Brad
Rine are working to establish an April program.

potential scholarship from Chapter 36.
Discussion resulted in an alternative idea to coordinate a competition
among student chapters. Steve to draft a
white paper on the idea and circulate for review.

Participants:

Golzy, chairman-elect; Dale Underwood, treasurer; and Bill Dyck, member. The meeting was held at Panera restaurant in
Dublin
and was called to order at 7:35 PM
by the chair. In the absence of the secretary Chris Vogelsang, John Golzy took
the minutes of the meeting.
1. Secretary’s
Report: John Golzy presented the November 16, 2004 executive
committee meeting minutes. Motion made by John Golzy to accept the minutes,
seconded by Bill Dyck, motion approved.
2. Treasurer’s
Report: John Golzy presented the
treasurer report. As of January 25,
2005, the balance on the checking account was $2,174.72 and on the
savings account was $2,697.53. Chapter net worth as of 1/25/2005 was $4,872.25. Motion made by Dale Underwood to accept the
treasurer report subject to audit, seconded by Bill Dyck, motion approved.
3. Chairman
Chatter: Steven Schmitt presented
Chairman Chatter and will post a copy on the SME Chapter 36 web site.
4. Program
Report: Dale Underwood, Director of Engineering at National Sign System in Hilliard, Ohio has offered a tour of his plant on February 9, 2005. Dale Underwood will send John Golzy a
formal announcement for distribution to SME list. RSVP should be sent to Bill
Dyck. For March and April technical
meetings tours of Nestle and Oasis were considered.
5. Student
Chapter Reports: None
6. Old
Business: Steve Schmitt has filled
out New Officers form and Chapter effectiveness report on behalf of Charles
Butcher, past-chair. Steve Schmitt and John Golzy have completed and submitted
the financial report to headquarters.
7. New
Business: Steve Schmitt will bring name tags for officers. Steve will
update the SME web site. Steve Schmitt will arrange for a meeting to meet with
Dale Underwood and John Golzy at a Fifth-Third bank branch to transfer
signature authority to the new treasurer. John Golzy will attend SME annual
meeting and a professional development workshop in Baltimore
as required by SME. Steve Schmitt indicated that the membership chair position
was vacant. Bill Dyke is considering this position.
