Manufacturing Excellence
Robert
Axtman, Ph.D., Executive Director WW Marketing
Dassault
Systemes - DELMIA
Our
speaker, Bob Axtman, has been with DELMIA Corp for 15 years. In addition to
his 30
years
experience in sales and marketing, he also has extensive background in
automated
high
speed equipment design, robotic system design/installation and Automated
System
sales.
Bob’s
talk will help decision makers who are looking for ways to reduce cost and
improve
profits,
market share or growth.
In
today’s economy, it is a challenge to even consider, what appears to be a
major
investment
because, typically, there is no budget for these types of solutions.
However,
proven
technology and methods that address immediate cost reduction may make these
solutions
feasible. To be successful an immediate return must be realized. Immediate
means
just that--, while implementing a solution and applying the techniques and
functions
to
the problem(s) they must see, attribute and document the direct cost
reduction or
savings
to the use of the investment.
In
his presentation, Bob will address the following objectives:
• use
of 3D simulation for manufacturing
•
off-line programming of robotic equipment
•
experience virtual manufacturing before buying equipment
•
metrics to save time and cost
•
affordable and intuitive solutions
Make
sure you don’t miss this exciting and valuable presentation.

Heads up for Chapter 069
January Meeting and Technical Presentation:
January
10, 2009
The
Chapter 69 Meeting in December will be a planning meeting and no technical presentation
will be held. However, our January meeting and technical presentation will
be at Kuka Robotics in Clinton Township. Look for details in next month’s
Bulletin.
Chairman’s
Message
SME moves ahead
strongly. It’s been a good year for me in SME and I thank the team for putting
together a great year of Chapter 69 programs. From January - Jamie
Flinchbaugh on Lean, Paul Drallos on the unique problems and solutions related
to software manufacturing - from concept to production, Mike Juras of
Vertare on lean product development in March and April, Martin Nehls of
FACTON on real time cost analysis and tracking, to the Dream Cruise, to the
Saleen Tour and the October Seimens PLM presentation by Brian Shay (Chapter
001) with Dipesh Gandhi & Nabil Sater support, it was a great year.
The November
presentation follows on the digital theme.
As you can see,
we have elections and still could use some help. It’s a great opportunity
to get
more involved.
There are many
opportunities for personal development and for information within SME. Stop
at a chapter meeting and we can help you unlock some of the avenues to that
information. Whether it is at a chapter 69 meeting, or information on a
Detroit or Ann Arbor presentation or contacts within the Technical
Community Network, the chapter can help you to get more value out of your
membership.
Our chapter
mission is to enhance Manufacturing Engineering through member engagement,
professional
certification, education, student support, intellectual exchange and
fellowship..
Check it out -
Let’s make it a great 2009.

A
short course is being offered by University Research & Engineering
Consultants at the
Oakland
Center on the Campus of Oakland University during the 2009 SAE World
Congress.
The
course also includes four hands-on laboratory experiments conducted at the
Fastening and
Joining
Research Institute at Oakland University.
The
instructor for the course is Dr. Sayed A. Nassar, Professor of Mech. Eng.
and Founding
Director
of the Fastening and Joining Research Institute (FAJRI) at Oakland
University.

Call
for Volunteers
The
Cranbrook Institute of Science offers Webelos Engineering Workshops which
allow boys to talk with engineers about different opportunities in
engineering. Webelos is a Boy Scouts of
America
program for 4th and 5th graders. Scout Coordinator, Ann McGowan is looking
to form a group of volunteers in the engineering community who would be
willing to come speak with the boys during these workshops about the variety
of opportunities in engineering. If you’d be interested, please contact:
