Chairman’s Message

January 14, 2008

Chapter 69 started 2008 with a great presentation by Jamie Flinchbaugh of the Lean Learning Center.

We started the meeting with networking and dinner followed by Natalie Lowell, our SME Member Relations Manager, administering the oath of office to our guests, the Detroit, SME Chapter 001, Executive Board. We were also honored to have Dr. Virinder Moudgil, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost of Oakland University, say a few words about future opportunities to work together. Natalie said a few words about the SME Annual Meeting held this year at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance May 31 – June 3, then we had Jamie’s presentation and discussion.

If you missed the meeting, you missed a great opportunity for both learning and networking.

Our Chapter’s Mission is to enhance the Manufacturing Profession through Member Engagement, Professional Certification, Education, Student Support, Intellectual Exchange, and Fellowship.

Throughout the year, we provide a variety of events and volunteer opportunities.

When I wrote my “Chairman’s message” in Nov. 29, 2004 Chapter 69 had 650 members, today we have 350. While fewer members make fulfilling our mission more difficult, we have improved the opportunities. Our programs are as good as, if not better than, they were in 2005. We also are refocusing on collaboration with other SE Michigan Chapters and were very pleased to welcome a large contingent from Detroit at this first meeting of 2008.

Continuous learning is the way to gain a competitive advantage. In today’s terrible job market, it may also be the differentiator that gets you the job over someone else.

The more you take advantage of SME events and activities, the more you will learn and grow. SME will add value to both you professional and personal life.

Come see what more you can get out of your membership, check us out.

 Yours truly,

Bob Petrach, CMfgE

2008 Chairman
