Greater Columbia Chapter 205

Chapter Chairman's Message

Dear SME Greater Columbia Chapter Members,

The year 2007 started very well!

-          Siemens plant tour was a success with 15 people,

-          USC’s New Biomass Steam and Electric Power Facility had one of the largest attendance ever – this presentation was offered to both SME and ASME (American Society Of Mechanical Engineers),

-          Next week we have over 60 people signed up for Bose tour plant for both SME and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)

In the engineering profession, we are many to think that networking is important. On our everyday work, when facing a challenge or problem in an unknown field, it’s always nice to have met somebody who could be familiar with it and give us a lead to start. So to better network we need to seek a larger attendance of engineers and students at our meetings. We also need to reach slightly beyond our “specialty”. This is why I didn’t hesitate to offer to partner with other organizations such as ASME and IEEE when similar interests can be found. I would like to encourage each of you to exchange business cards and chat about what you are doing during these opportunities.

I hope to see as many of you in the future at our next Speaker presentations and Plant Tours.

Best regards,

Jean Maraval

Chair of SME greater Columbia 205
