Karen (along with the Student Government), has the responsibility of administering the Student Activity Fund (SAF) and provides services such as budgeting, accountability of student activity funds, information, leadership, and guidance to student organizations. The SAF is a fund provided for by fees paid to the college for the use by and for the students. The student government oversees the funding of college groups via the SAF and represents the student "voice" on the college governance council, plans special college social and community service events, and sanctions new student organizations. Student Government meets on Wednesdays, every week. Karen Westerberg described some of the new changes for student activities this year. One change was, checks for reimbursement are no longer generated locally, they must now be processed through Hartford. When students want to go on a college sponsored trip and wish to be reimbursed, a one time form (called a W9) must be submitted for anything over $25. For items under $25, petty cash may be obtained. All food, travel and guest speakers, can be reimbursed for a student organization. Budget for buses to go on field trips must be in a line item in an organizations budget. Generally, buses cost between $500-600. A budget cap for each organization is set at $1200. Fund raisers may be used to obtain additional cash, but must be approved. For more information, contact Karen Westerberg at 885-2333. Student Chapter 60 (S060) members are planning to attend the Region 5 Meeting of SME at Nashua, New Hampshire, October 19th through the 21st of 2001. If you want to attend this event and want to be reimbursed , you must fill out a travel authorization with the college before the event. This will cover students who are traveling out of state on college business for insurance purposes. All expenses incurred during the trip must be documented via receipt and submitted to Harry Ogden. Reimbursement usually takes approximately two weeks. For more information regarding the Region 5 meeting, please contact Harry Ogden. A budget for S060 must be submitted, voted on and approved.
