Student Chapter S060 Meeting Minutes September 12, 2001 Location: Three Rivers Community College, Thames Campus, Room 119 Time: 5:00 PM - 5:45PM Attendees: Harry Ogden, Advisor Ken Szablewski, Chairman Rick Gibeault, Co-Chairman Jen Topham, Secretary Pete Shafer, Acting Treasurer Bill Roberts, Member Our first meeting for the school year commenced promptly at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, September 12, 2001. Pizza and soda was provided for the occasion. Our guest speaker Karen Westerberg was volunteering for activities in support of the recent tragedy in Washington and New York and could not attend our meeting. I would like to commend Karen for her dedication in this regard. It is expected that Karen Westerberg will be rescheduled to speak at our meeting again at a future date. On that note, I would like to express deep sympathy and condolences for the victims and their family and friends of this massive tragedy. We have all been affected by this tragedy. In respect for the diversity of our student body, I extend to you the following: May you find peace and blessing as the future unfolds. There are three proposed places of business that are potential future field trips for our Chapter. They are Trumpf (Bloomfield), Metal Pro (East Lyme) and Phelps Dodge (Norwich). Some of these proposed field trips may include joint attendance by other student technical organizations. Harry Ogden stated that Ron Greenier and himself would act as "member boosters" by announcing the SME chapter activities and the benefits of joining during their classes throughout the school year. It was announced during the meeting that the SME Region 5 meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, September 15, 2001 in Massachusetts. Our Chair, Co-Chair and member Mark Homand are expected to attend this event. A summary report of this event is to be generated for the membership. A proposal was presented to offer as incentive, business cards to new student members. Two of our officers already have the software to create the business cards. Rick Gibeault is going to check on the cost of the business card stock so that this endeavor can be fully supported. At the meeting it was announced our Advisor Harry Ogden has appointed Pete Shafer as Acting Treasurer. Pete's duties begin promptly. Welcome Aboard, Pete. A Student Mentoring proposal has been presented at the meeting. A general question was asked regarding whether the membership would be willing to participate and support the Student Mentoring Program. Majority response was positive and supportive. A request was made by Jen Topham to invite Lisa Tronco to speak about the particulars of Student Mentoring. Harry Ogden will contact Lisa and make an appointment with her to come and speak at one our future meetings. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at 5:00PM -5:45PM.
