You will notice that several elements of the policy have been upgraded to "must" level from "should" level.
In order to maintain consistency among the SME International Headquarters homepage and chapter homepages, the Chapter Homepage and Directory Policy has been updated.
For a chapter Web site to have their homepage listed and a hyperlink provided from the SME main Web site or be to hosted on the Chapter Homepage Server, these requirements must be adhered to at all times. The Chapter Homepage Server is a no-cost benefit for chapters wishing to have a web presence on the Internet, this is a specific benefit provided to our chapters for hosting the Web site containing information relating to the chapter activities.
- Chapter Homepages must display the chapter name and number corresponding to the site.
- The SME logo must be visible on the homepage of the chapter Web site. The use of the SME logo must also be in compliance with the SME's Logo Policy. Click here to view the Logo Policy online.
- SME International Headquarters must be referenced as SME International Headquarters and a link must be provided guiding users to the home page of SME headquarters Web site from the main homepage of the chapter site.
- An up-to-date name and contact number list for chapter elected officers must be available on the Web site.
- The current webmaster's name and a hyperlink for his/her (active) e-mail address must be located on the main homepage of the chapter Web site.
- The date the Web site was last updated must be displayed on the homepage of the chapter Web site. Please remember that chapter web sites not updated regularly (over one year old) will be archived and deleted off the web server.
- The information contained on the chapter sites must be current and accurate.
- All content must be professional, appropriate, and be able to stand the test of the SME Code of Ethics and the Canons of Professional Conduct as put forth in the SME Governance Document.Click here to view online.
Periodically the chapter Web sites will be reviewed to assure each site is in compliance with the Chapter Homepage and Directory Policy. In instances where a Web site is out of compliance, the chapter chair and webmaster will be notified of the non-compliance including a request for the corrections which if not met will cause suspension or deletion of the non-compliant Web site.
